Game Review: Zenonia
Zenonia by GAMEVIL Inc.
Zenonia is a classic hack-and-slash RPG, akin to games like Zelda: A Link To the Past or even Phantom Hourglass. GAMEVIL dubbed this game "the return of the classic action RPG" and they were right on the money. With Zenonia's easy-to-use controls and engaging storyline, this is one game that you could lose yourself in for hours.
Two opposing factions are at war with an baby boy caught in the middle of all this chaos. Upon defeating the enemy, a knight grabs the child and returns to the castle. The infant grows up to become your character. Your stepfather (the knight who rescued you as a baby) is killed by an evil demon, and leaving your character orphaned— luckily, you are old enough to look after yourself. this is where the game really begins.
There are 3 different classes to choose from: The paladin is a wielder of the elements of earth and dominates enemies with magic; the warrior never backs down, and defeats enemies with strength and courage; and the assassin is swift as the wind and silent as a shadow— no one can stop him. Personally I decided to go with assassin; stealth and high damage counts (due to duel wield) sounds like a good combination for this title.
The game also offers a skill tree for each class and special abilities. There are also item classes— magic, rare, epic, unique, and normal.
A good or evil system is also in place with alternate endings to the game, as well as a whopping 40 hours of game play. A day and night cycle is also in place, as well as a hunger and weight system. Hunger reflects your character's need to eat, where as weight tells you how strong your character is by much he can carry.
The good: Great graphics, game play, storyline, music, and sound effects.
The bad: Controls are a bit sketchy.
The breakdown: Great Zelda-like game play, interesting storyline, 40 hours of game play! 3 different classes with skill trees, a good or evil ending. This game has a lot of polish to it and plays very well, and at $5.99 it's a damn good deal for what it offers. To reflect this, I'm giving it a deserved 5/5.
