Rise of Lost Empires

Rise of Lost Empires

Rise of Lost Empires is a real time strategy game, with some micro-management thrown in. The first campaign is led by the heroic humans against the brutal orcs. The orcs are invading; the drums of war can be heard clearly across the land.

This is a true RTS game in every sense: You can make huge armies and cities, and you must spend your resources wisely— a lot can go wrong if you don't take the proper precautions. This game reminds me a lot of Warcraft III because of the use of heroes— and of course, the two conflicting groups being orcs and humans.

That being said, the game does offer some originality; the orcs in this game are influenced by minions of hell! Hey, wait a minute… oh, that's not that original at all! WC3 had almost the exact same storyline as that.

Alright, so, it may not be original, but the controls for the game are easy to use! Simply touch a unit to select it. Using two fingers will create a selection box to select multiple units at once, and double tapping on a single unit will select all units of the same type.

The game offers 20 missions, as well as two separate campaigns (the humans vs the orcs and the orcs vs the humans). There are 20 different unit types, as well as 20 different buildings to build, and 6 hero classes to lead your army to victory!

The good: Great looking game, sound effects are great, and the voice acting is well done.

The bad: The game tends to lag when there are many units onscreen.

The breakdown: This game is a hell of a lot of fun! At $4.99, its a bargain. I really enjoyed the orc campaign myself. I hope that Gameloft fixes the lag issues with the game in an update, and maybe adds multiplayer functionality *hint hint* A well-deserved 4.5/5
