Game Review: Amateur Surgeon Lite
Amateur Surgeon Lite by [adult swim]
This game is a fairly effective attempt at dark humor. You play Alan Probe, a moronic pizza delivery boy turned amateur surgeon in a twist of fate one day while on the job. You hit Dr. Bleed, an infamous surgeon with a dark past, and he tells you to cut him open and instructs you on how to fix him up. Armed with only a pizza cutter and your wits, you take on the challenge.
The whole concept of this game is quite hysterical. In the first two "missions" you have to reset broken bones, staple deep cuts shut, cauterize wounds, remove broken glass, and use Dr. Bleed's magical ointment that heals immediately. Your tools are poor grade and serve more for humor than anything else.
This game isn't for the faint of heart, and has a 17 year old age restriction. There's lots of cutting, burning and other such gruesome cartoon things. At one point in this demo you have to remove glass from a burglars lungs, which I guess is the most graphic part of the demo. Personally, I didn't find it to be all that disturbing— I've seen far worse on TV.
The good: Awesome graphics and sounds, interesting use of humor in a game that shouldn't really be funny, but somehow still is.
The bad: Only 2 "missions" :(
The breakdown: This game was an enjoyable time killer, and while it didn't take to long for me to beat, it is quite original (at least to me it is). I can't help but wonder how much more there is to do in the full version. Though, at $2.99, I doubt that I will be purchasing this one any time soon. 4/5
