In Supermarket Mania you (you guessed it!) run your own grocery store. Help Nikki stock the shelves quickly and keep your customers from waiting, losing their patience, and leaving— and taking that day's profits with them.

In the free version of the game (available here, if you're interested), you start to get a feel for the story behind the game, and try out 3 levels in 2 different shops. The full version, which is available for $4.99, provides the full storyline, has 50 levels, 5 shops, 7 different customers, products to sell, and accessories and various upgrades for your shops and for Nikki herself.

The game runs smoothly, the music and sound effects enhance the game (the ka-ching! sound of money going into the register is especially gratifying, for some reason), and the graphics are very well done. The storyline is simple, but cute; Nikki and her friend are very sympathetic characters. The customers each have their own quirky personalities and it's interesting to see which products they tend to gravitate towards. The thieves are a wonderful touch, I quite enjoy their little snickers when they think they're getting away with stealing. Mr. Bigfist, the beefy security guard, is also a delight. He's so cute with his bushy little mustache! I bet he rather enjoys donuts (I wish I could give him something in return- he works so hard, blowing his whistle at misbehaving teens and catching crooks trying to sneak heads of lettuce beneath their shirts.)

I really enjoyed this app, obviously. It's hard to put down once you get on a roll. I've managed to spend an entire afternoon playing this game without even noticing that time was passing, on more than one occasion. Recommended if you enjoy games that put a little pressure on, and force you to be quick. 4.5/5.
