Twitter, twitter, twitter! Are you hearing enough about twitter? Interested in catching the latest big thing?

Twitter is a micro blogging platform. Micro in that you are limited to 140 characters. Cool in that you can connect to your friends, acquaintances and people you admire …around the world. You get people following you and you follow back. Simple. It’s the new thing – try it.

Tweetie is one of the best twitter applications on the iPhone. It’s easy to setup and use, and does all of the things that you need it to do.

It also has a number of really cool and handy features like landscape mode typing, Searches, Trends, and (the slightly creepy…) Nearby. You can email and post links inside tweets.

Searches allow you to find the recent tweets about a particular subject or about a particular person. A handy tool if you use this app for your marketing research. You can also find out who people are following, their recent tweets and the people who follow them.

Trends is another way of getting similar information. It shows the most popular subject matter being tweeted about.

Nearby will show you the recent tweets of persons who are nearby. The app asks to use your current location (from the GPS) before it locates fellow tweeters nearby and then shows you their recent tweets. You can set the diameter of the radius the app searches within.

Tweetie allows you to easily have multiple twitter accounts (ie. personal, work).

One important thing: numerous settings for Tweetie are located in the global iPhone Settings app. (This meets the iPhone SDK guidelines.) You can change the look, the keyboard mode and numerous other settings here.

What’s missing? it would be nice if it was simpler to retweet. And a small thing but it would save some time if the app went automatically to the most recent tweet upon loading — as of this version, you have to scroll.
