Game Review: Pac-Man Lite

PAC-MAN Lite by Namco Networks America Inc.

At first when I discovered this I thought, "Sweet! Pac Man on my phone!"

After about thirty five seconds of playing it, I realized that this isn't the same Pac Man I knew and loved. This game all falls apart because of the horrible controls.

Over all the game looks exactly the same. The sound effects are the same. So you might be asking yourself, "How the heck do you screw up PAC-MAN?"

To be totally honest I think that Namco just got lazy, and decided to release an essentially flawed version of a great classic game.

There are 3 different control settings, a virtual directional pad on the screen, a finger swipe pad, or the accelerometer.

I started out my first attempt of this demo with the accelerometer. This control scheme was at best effective about 50 percent of the time. I replayed several times and even my best turning was not enough to get past the one and only level.

Next I tried the finger swipe pad. This is the best control setting for the game. I managed to defeat the first maze after only 2 or 3 attempts. Of course this mode is still flawed by the fact that the pad will not always go the way you want it to.

The directional pad was my last option, and much the same as the other settings would not always do what was input into it.

The good: It's PAC-MAN, and it's free.

The bad: It seems really hard for me believe that Namco would screw up so royally. The key element to this entire game is the ability to make split second changes in direction! The controls for this game need improvement.

The breakdown: The demo offers the first level of the game, and is free. If you're a hardcore Pac Man fan, then by all means download the demo. Otherwise… meh. 1/5
