Voice Notes (1.4) by Garrett Wampole

This is a slightly more than bare bones voice memo application that does exactly what it promises. It records short notes perfectly.

I was looking for somewthing that allowed me to take notes on issues, actions and responses that I need to keep track of through my busy day. Quick and easy to use!

I didn't want something to conduct interviews; I didn't want super high audio quality – I have an Edirol R09 for that.

I tried some other apps and found the registration process as well as other requirements and features were a little too much for what I wanted. All I need is a way to quick store good ideas, actions and whatever so that I can remind myself later.

I find that stopping to type a terse note into the iPhone included Notes can really interrupt a conversation. So I reasoned that a voice memo type of app might be just the ticket.

Voice Notes is fulfilling my needs. It's simple to use. Launch it, hit the Quick Voice Note button and start talking. You can save up to 10+ minutes per Quick Note session.

I haven't had a note that's run anywhere near that long so it's ample for my uses.

There is also a Quick Notes server that you can download and install on your main box. This allows you to transfer audio notes via wifi to your computer. This is a decent and clever app.

The only time I wanted to use it was for a longer note that was the start of an article. I dumped the audio into a transcription application and transcribed it over. Handy and I can't wait until computers can just transcribe everything!

I use this almost everyday. For ease of use, great form follows function for my needs and being free, I rate it 5/5.
